Since I already have a gmail account the Google Reader set up was no problem. I decided to set up subscriptions for my children and then to the Free Technology for Teachers, Dangerously Irrelevant, and Cool Cat Teacher. It was really quite simple to add the blogs and sites to my Google Reader.
Since the account was just established I really don't know how I will like it. Maybe I'll have a better idea after a couple of days when I have begun receiving notification that updates are available. This could improve efficiency in a school setting by allowing you to continuously monitor for blog updates.
